It is not a simple task to install Booki on Windows, how is it done?

after reading the installation instructions in the user manual, it says explicitly that it only works on Linux.

I think you could feasibly install booki using cygwin to get a posix environment for windows, but it would not be particularly easy.

The other option would be to run a linux virtual machine on your windows computer using virtualbox, vmware or one of the others.

Booki was developed to be a web-based utility, so it is designed to be installed on an Apache server rather than a standalone PC.

It may be possible to install it on a Windows computer that has a WAMP Apache server on it but I will need to check with the developers.

Could you give me some more information on what you want to achieve by installing Booki on windows, as this could help to ensure that the developers give the correct advice.

what you want to achieve by installing Booki on windows?

I've realised that there are different versions of Booki installed on the Booki page, Floss Manuals page and a third place, which allowed export as html. In order to work in the latest version of Booki, it seems like I'll have to download and install it. And on top of this working in Booki can be slow, if your internet connection is slow, so having it installed locally would fasten things up.

www.booki.cc will always be running the most up to date version of booki, as this is it's home install. If your book is about free software then Floss Manuals also runs the latest version as this is the organisation that developed booki.

I have been able to use booki using dial-up speeds before, the loading up of the Table of contents and loading the chapter editor, are slow, but once open, the writing process always went smoothly.

I will get on to the developers about installation on Windows.

When I started working on my software manual. The version on Booki.cc couldn't edit the chapter headings bacause of a bug, but this was possible in the version on the FLOSS manuals site. Non of the versions on those two sites had html as an export option, only http://objavi.flossmanuals.net/ had that option as I was told when I reported that as a bug: http://booki-dev.flossmanuals.net/ticket/424 So I think it is fair to say that not all of those versions can be the same or the latest version.

objavi is software that exports books into various formats from booki. objavi.flossmanuals.net is a standalone version of objavi.

While booki.cc and booki.flossmanuals.net have different interfaces, they still run the same booki core.

Sorry, still waiting to hear back about the installation on windows.
